MINNEAPOLIS—-General Mills, Inc. today reported results for the first quarter of fiscal 2008. Net sales for the 13 weeks ended Aug. 26, 2007, rose 7 percent to $3.07 billion. Segment operating profits grew 9 percent to $578 million, including an 11 percent increase in consumer marketing expense during the quarter.

Michael V. Richards, 47, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Sept. 2, 2007. He was operator of the Big Oak Lounge, a veteran of peace time and served seven years in Army 82nd Airborne. He was also a member of A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) and of Presbyterian faith.
